Social Media Year in Review
By Rebekah Baker - Support Specialist, HDD Broker LLC - December 27, 2019
2019 was the year of Facebook and Instagram for HDD Broker. While we've had both platforms for many years (Instagram since 2014 and Facebook since 2012), the way that we've used them has completely changed in the past year.
Up until this past year we've been using our social outlets to post some of our featured listings, but it was mainly used to highlight our culture, our achievements, and major things that happened in our bi-coastal bubble. We celebrate birthdays and work anniversaries, we have pot luck lunches during the holidays throughout the year, we overshare pictures of our pets. Those things are great content so that our customers can get a glimpse behind the curtain of what goes on at HDD Broker - but the times, as they say, are a-changing.
Over the past year we decided that sending out our weekly email newsletter with our featured rigs was not enough and that we needed to update our online social activity. We're an online company - this should have been obvious! Bring the features to the people!
That's exactly what we did.
If you look at our timelines for the past year on either platform, you'll see a color pallet full of yellow and orange with healthy splashes of blue and green and gray. To mix things up we have some videos and genuine social content. This time last year on both Facebook and Instagram we had just broken through the 1,000-follower ceiling, something that was four years in the making. As of the end of December we had over 1,400 on each. The response to the change up of content was enough to convince us that we were on a pathway to success.
We also considered that the vast majority of our social friends and followers (Broker Pals, if you will) are actually Millennials, Xellennials, and Gen X'ers who more and more often have buying power within their companies, and if not, they have the ear of the person who does. This is a group of people who are very comfortable purchasing off the internet sight unseen (thank you Amazon) and a good basis of how our company works.
HDD Broker is a company that started with the internet boom, so the bulk of our Broker Pals also grew up with us through the good, the bad, and the weird. Social media has been an amazing way to connect with our customers that has proven to be fruitful - out of our top twenty featured rigs twelve of them sold within 17 days of being featured, 2 had deals within the same day of their post going live.
Social media has been a valuable tool and asset that we're very glad we can add to our collection. So you tell us - what's something you'd like to see more of in 2020?
